What is recorded here
No trace remains of the Ballincloher ringfort, yet it stood large enough for surveyors to mark before disappearing from later maps. That sudden erasure suggests people stopped seeing it or deliberately removed it, turning a inhabited boundary into forgotten soil. The missing circle still belongs to the field, waiting for someone to remember what it kept.
This circular enclosure is situated one field NE of a standing stone (KE015-075----). It is marked on the 1841-42 OS map, but does not appear on the 1916 edition. No surface trace survives.
The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 516. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
