Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballinaclogh Lower

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mud and memory entangled. People built a ring, forgot its name, and reused the hill for a castle. Forgetting is not loss; it is a jar waiting for a new kitchen.
Possible ringfort reused as a motte and bailey (LA024-015002-) (OPW file). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 17 December 2007 This monument is subject to a preservation order made under the National Monuments Acts 1930 to 2014 (PO no. 4/1981).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
