Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballaghymurry

Fairy fort in Ballaghymurry: a shallow earthen ring, forty metres wide, half-swallowed by grass in County Galway. People called it a fairy fort because the shape resisted ordinary explanation, not because facts stopped at the border of sense. A human hand may have built the ring for a house, a boundary, a ceremony or a warning. The earth kept the shape long after the name changed, which is more than most proud buildings manage.
