Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ashfort

Fairy fort in Ashfort, County Limerick: a 30-metre earthen ring with a narrow bank, shallow outer ditch and a wide NE causeway, still set in rolling pasture. The measurements are precise, but the name refuses to be precise, as if people saw a house and called it a house for fairies because no human claim could be found. Maybe it was a farmhouse, a workshop or a seasonal shelter that lost its records and kept its shape. The land remembered the circle long after the names disappeared.
