Fairy fort in Annacramph, County Monaghan: a 32-metre earthen ring on a drumlin, its bank worn to scars and hedge, four gaps instead of one known door. People may have lived there, marked the edge, entered through any opening they chose. The shape still works like a room without walls, inviting imagination to finish what time has thinned.

Located on top of a drumlin. This is a raised circular grass-covered area (diam. 32m NE-SW) defined by a slight earthen bank (at NE: Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.6m) that is largely reduced to a scarp (at NW: Wth 1m; H 1.55m; at SW: Wth 1.4m; H 1.6m) and hedge. There are slight traces of a fosse that may have been deepened W-NNE. There are four entrance gaps but the original entrance could not be identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
