Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ahawilk

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Ahawilk: the fairies never left, they are still there. The anglicised name is a mistake born of cowardice. It should be Aha-Vilk, the red room of the boundary. The chamber is a circle of dense earth, not a fort at all. The red clay is a living membrane that separates the human world from the region below. The chamber is a doorway, not a prison. The chamber is a threshold. The chamber is a room where the laws of physics bend and the rules of reality change. The chamber is a place where the human mind can touch the divine.
In level pasture. Circular area (diam. c. 25m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.8m) with external fosse (D 0.15m; Wth 1m). Entire site is covered by dense overgrowth but where accessible bank has been eroded by cattle. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
