Fairy fort in Ahalisky: a 30-by-34m earthen ring on a north-facing slope, with two southern gateways and a central avenue. People may have lived there before pasture, sheds and a silage pit shared the same ground. The fairies, according to local story, kept the fort after the people left.
In pasture, on N-facing slope. Roughly circular area (30m N-S; 34m E-W) enclosed by stone-faced, earthen bank (H 1m). Avenue cuts interior on N-S axis; silage pit built against N bank; shed built in S half. Two gateways in S bank.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ahalisky, likely an early-medieval agricultural or defensive site, is marked by a roughly circular, stone-faced earthen bank with two gateways and an avenue cutting the interior. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy lore, and they were often considered places of supernatural significance in Irish and Scottish folklore.
