Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Aghenderry

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

A 44-metre earthen ring stands in Aghenderry, its bank rising more than two metres above the ground. It is not a distant ruin but a living boundary beside a farmyard and public road. People may have lived inside, feared the fairy fort or simply noticed the shape of the land. The ring still marks the place, and the place still returns the shape to memory.
A raised circular enclosure (diam. c. 44m) defined by a bank (int. H c. 2.12m; ext. H c. 2.4m). There is a farmyard immediately S of the ringfort and a public road runs NE-SW immediately outside the SE sector. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 4 August 2021
