Affouley holds a faded ringfort where a broad earthen bank and shallow fosse once marked a boundary now reduced to a half-metre ripple in low-lying ground. Its twenty-seven-metre circle has been levelled until it barely shows, transforming a defended home into a subtle sway of the land. The fort may have housed people, excluded strangers or simply gave shape to a place others could recognize. What remains is enough to suggest that the ground still remembers the circle even when the eye no longer can.

Internal diameter 27m N-S, 26m E-W Situated in low-lying land, this univallate rath has been much levelled and is barely perceptible today. It consists of a circular area enclosed by a low, 8m- 9m wide earthen bank and external fosse. The bank rises to a height of .5m. The fosse is very shallow, c2m wide and .6m below the height of the surrounding land. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
