Kentstown Road in Ratoath, cut in 1795, still covers a wide ditch that marks an old graveyard boundary. The road changed the town, but the buried line preserved the shape of the place that existed before the carriage route.

Located within the town of Ratoath, between the motte and bailey and the church. Archaeological monitoring (01E1173) by F. O’Carroll of the line of a sewer under the footpath (D c. 0.6-1.6m) adjacent to the extended graveyard (ME044-034017-) and on the line of a new road constructed in 1795 identified a number of features (excavations.ie 2001: 1042). This wide linear ditch (max. Wth 3.4m; D 1m plus) c. 80m inside the linear boundary ditch (ME044-024012-) of the settlement was exposed in the sewer trench and extended S from it. It was cut into a natural brown clay and was filled with a mixed fill that produced no artefacts. It was probably a property boundary and it is on the extended line of the original W boundary of the graveyard.
