Excavation

Excavation, miscellaneous

What is recorded here

Discovered prior to road construction (Excavation Licence No. 00E0479). Consisted of four pits and two postholes. Two postholes and one pit were found in close proximity and the other three pits were found some distance away to the N. The fills of the features varied considerably and the only finds were a piece of struck flint and a piece of slag recovered from two of the pits. Analysis of these features is difficult due to the limited evidence and the excavator suggests that 'it is unlikely that the excavated features all relate to a single period or phase' (Chapple 2002, 238-9).
