Excavation: In 2003, before the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass cut through County Cork, workers uncovered nineteen pits, eight post-holes, six stake-holes and cultivation furrows. The holes appeared scattered rather than arranged, yet twelve small pits clustered at the south end, filled with heat-shattered stone and fragments of metal slag. They suggest a place where heat, metal and repeated human effort met, even if the larger layout has been lost.

Discovered in 2002 and subsequently excavated in 2003 in advance of the construction of the N8 Rathcormac-Fermoy Bypass. Nineteen pits, eight post-holes, six stake-holes, and a range of cultivation furrows were discovered. There was no apparent pattern to the post- and stake-holes, many of which occurred in isolation. A concentration of twelve small pits (av. diam. 0.3m; av. D 0.3m) with similar dimensions was recorded towards the S end of the excavated area. These pits contained heat-shattered stone.
