What is recorded here

Located in a fairly level landscape. Archaeological monitoring (01E0538) of the centre-line and offsets on the line of the Enfield bypass road identified six potential archaeological areas that were subsequently resolved under different licences (Clutterbuck 2003). In this area excavation (01E0619) recorded four circular pits (diam. 0.9m x 0.9m; D 0.15m to 1.3m x 1.1m; D 0.3m) with flat bases containing silty clay with large amounts of burnt sandstone and charcoal. The ground was cut by NW-SE cultivation furrows, and a chert flake with possible secondary retouching on one side and three flint fragments were amongst the few artefacts recovered.
