Excavation is an excavation, miscellaneous in Cloongownagh, County Roscommon, Ireland. The rectangular pit measured 4m by 1.1m, reached 0.3m deep, and contained charred organic material that dated to AD 650-870. Its fire-reddened clay edge suggests it may have formed part of a corn-drying kiln. A nearby working area measured about 7m by 4m and held shallow ditches with fragments of baked clay.

On a level landscape. It was identified in monitoring (03E1374) a road project in 2003 (Gannon 2004, 7, sites 8) and completely excavated (04E0375) (Carroll 2007a). This is a rectangular pit (dims 4m x 1.1m; D 0.3m) containing charred organic material, which provided a C14 date of AD 650-870, with a fire-reddened clay edge. It may be part of a corn-drying kiln. A working area (dims c. 7m x c. 4m) just to the E had shallow ditches and was covered in fragments of baked clay. When excavated the pit proved to have been re-cut once.
