Eskerstephen Grave Yard

Cemetery

What is recorded here

Eskerstephen Grave Yard occupies the northeastern summit of a winding esker ridge in Templemoyle, County Galway, where dry gravel and sand rose above the surrounding land. The graveyard may have begun as a hermitage for the seventh-century monastic founder Fechín, transforming a sacred withdrawal into a long burial ground. Plain upright stones still cluster near the northern end where the church once stood, while the curved western wall preserves the memory of an older enclosure. Two dugout canoes recovered nearby suggest that people have worked, worshipped and buried along this ridge for far longer than the graves alone reveal.
Eskerstephen Grave Yard is a cemetery in County Galway, Ireland.
