Ulster History Circle placed the blue plaque on the Methodist College front door to mark Ernest Walton's school years from 1915 to 1922. The young physicist later received a Nobel prize, yet this ordinary door preserved the childhood room where curiosity first caught fire.

Ernest Walton was a physicist who, along with John Cockcroft, conducted the first artificial nuclear disintegration in 1932, for which they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1951.
