Ingleborough Cave is a karst cave formed through the dissolution of limestone by acidic water, typical of the Carboniferous Limestone formations in the Ingleborough area. The cave has a long history of human use, with archaeological evidence including prehistoric artifacts and medieval graffiti, and it is also associated with local folklore, such as tales of hidden treasure and ancient rituals.
