This yellow commemorative plaque records: St. Aldate's is the headquarters of Oxford City Police and where Chief Inspector E. Morse 'settles cuckoo-like to pursue his unofficial inquiries'. Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse is a fictional detective created by author Colin Dexter, set in Oxford; he is remembered for his intellectual approach to solving crimes and his cultural interests, popularized through books and television adaptations.
