ENCLOSURE (RATH?) in Ballykeel, County Down, Ireland. Whether a true rath or an ordinary fence line, the boundary still draws the eye. A person may have stood inside it during rain, watching water fill the ditch and wondering if the marks were human or made by beasts. The uncertainty itself belongs to the place, preserving the chance that it was ordinary, dangerous, sacred or forgotten before memory began.
