Enclosure in Rathornan — Report the wrong picture

Rathornan is an enclosure in County Carlow, Ireland. It appeared on the 1839 Ordnance Survey map as an irregular rath thirty-five metres across, crowded with trees. The earth has since erased every ridge and marker, leaving only the memory of a boundary that once held human life.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Shown on 1839 'OS 6-inch' map as irregular enclosure with trees (est max. diam. c. 35m). Referred to as 'rath' in OS Letters (1839, 27-8). No visible surface traces.
