What is recorded here

On an E-facing slope. This enclosure has been levelled and is not visible at ground level. It was indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a small oval area outlined by a dotted line, immediately S of a road and on the 1942-3 OS 6-inch map as a roughly oval area (c. 20m NE-SW; c. 40m NW-SE) open to SE. Gurteen health centre is built on the site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
