Archaeological survey E of Knowth Passage tomb complex (ME019-030----) revealed a multiple–elliptical enclosure defined by a external fosse (dims. 63m N-S by 70m E-W) and an inner fosse (dims. 39m by 45m). There is a gap in the eastern sector. It encloses an eccentrically placed circular feature 22m in diameter. This enigmatic enclosure has been variously interpreted as, a large bivallate ringfort, concentric circle, or henge (Fenwick 2012).
