Enclosure in Knockaulin

Discovered through archaeological excavation (Wailes 1990 19; Johnson 1990, 26-31) and possibly the earliest evidence of activity on Knockaulin Hill – predating the extensive Iron Age activity and the enclosing of the hilltop to form Dún Ailinne (KD028-038001-). A small Neolithic enclosure comprised a roughly circular ditch (diam. c. 20m) in which was found a hollow scraper and a fragment of a leaf-shaped flint arrowhead.
