What is recorded here
Indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map and 1948-9 revision as a roughly circular enclosure and shown in more detail on the 25 inch OS map as a roughly D-shaped enclosure (dims. c. 50m NE-SW; c. 57m NW-SE), the S and W sides of which are straight and the N and E curvilinear. On 1995 OS satellite imagery the field is shown as being under tillage and the monument has been levelled. A cropmark of the enclosure on satellite imagery (Google Earth, imagery date 24 March 2017) shows the S half of the monument (int. dims. c. 44m NW-SE) enclosed by a wide fosse (Wth c. 4-5m). The northern portion of the monument has been truncated by a circular horse gallops (diam. 180m). The gallops is visible on satellite imagery from 2009 (no image available between 1995 and 2009), it was decommissioned in 2021.
