What is recorded here

Four ghost forts still hide inside Glin Castle's land, named by Lewis in 1837 but vanished from every map since. They may be buried under bracken, broken into farm walls, or never have existed at all. The known fort stands because someone remembered it; the others escape because no one has walked their absent circles recently.

Lewis (1837, 73) mentions five 'ancient forts' within the demesne of Glin Castle. Only one of these is known (LI017-020----). The location of the other four is not known and none of them are depicted in the demesne land of the castle on the 1st edition OS 6-inch map. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of Upload: 3 August 2012
