Glin Castle once claimed five ancient forts, but four vanished before the first surveyors drew their lines. Lewis named them in 1837, yet they resist every later attempt to be found. They may still hide beneath grass, hedges or forgotten field boundaries, waiting for someone to stop looking for a monument and start listening for a shape.

Lewis (1837, 73) mentions five 'ancient forts' within the demesne of Glin Castle. Only one of these is known (LI017-020----). The location of the other four is not known and none of them are depicted in the demesne land of the castle on the 1st edition OS 6-inch map. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of Upload: 3 August 2012
