Enclosure in Dunmore Park, County Kilkenny: a 45-metre circular rath on a stony ridge between two streams, mapped in 1839 as one of two ancient raths and traditionally called the Large Rath. It disappeared from later maps, perhaps levelled for farming, yet satellite imagery still shows its deep fosse cutting through the field. The land keeps the shape long after people stopped naming it, a quiet circle watching the valley from above.

On a slight rise at the N end of a ridge between two streams, on stoney ground, under tillage. There are very good views in all directions. A circular (int. diam. c. 45m) enclosure is indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map within an area of woodland and, in the accompanying OS Letters, it is noted as one of 'two ancient Raths' in the townland (O'Flanagan ed. 1930, vol. 1, 39 (13)). According to local tradition it is known as the 'Large Rath'. The enclosure is not indicated on the 1946-7 OS 6-inch revision though the area of woodland is which suggest the enclosure may have been levelled by this date. It is visible as a cropmark on satellite imagery (Google Earth, 28 June 2018) with a wide deep fosse (Wth c. 5m).
