Enclosure in Drumirril

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Drumirril holds Enclosure E, a marked boundary within a wider landscape of prehistoric rock art in County Monaghan. O’Connor’s 2006 thesis identified it as part of an inscribed setting, not a random feature. The enclosure may have excluded people, marked territory or shaped ritual movement. Its purpose has faded, but its position remains clear in the land.
'Enclosure E' in Blaze O' Connor's thesis (Figure 3.73) - see O' Connor B. 2006, 'Inscribed Landscapes contextualising prehistoric rock art in Ireland'. Unpublished PHD thesis, University College Dublin. Date of upload: 27 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
