Enclosure

What is recorded here

Enclosure in Cloonyquin (roscommon By.) is an enclosure in Cloonyquin (roscommon By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. It stands on a five-metre oval hillock in a low-lying area, with a broad band of lush vegetation marking the fosse around its base. Cloonyquin House sits six hundred metres to the northwest, while the site itself may have been a tree-ring.
Marked only on the 1927 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as an oval hachured feature (dims c. 60m NW-SE; c. 35m NE-SW) with trees, and located on an oval hillock (dims c. 60m NW-SE; c. 30m NE-SW; H c. 5m) in a low-lying position on an undulating landscape. A band of lush vegetation (Wth 3-5m) all around the base of the hillock which has the cairn (RO022-084001-) indicates the fosse of an enclosure. It may have been a tree-ring and Cloonyquin House is c. 600m to the NW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
