What is recorded here

Clongarran in County Carlow holds a ghost of a circular enclosure, perhaps forty metres across, beside an abandoned farmyard. No wall or ditch remains for hands to touch, yet the earth still marks the shape beneath growing crops. The missing boundary suggests a forgotten residence, workshop or ritual site rather than a simple field marker.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Aerial photograph (GSI S 261) shows cropmark of what appears to be circular enclosure adjacent to now abandoned farmyard (est max. diam. c. 40m). Possibly a ringfort. No visible surface traces.
