Enclosure in Cloghna

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Cloghna in County Carlow holds a circular enclosure immediately west of a possible ringfort. Aerial photography reveals the shape while ground-level traces have vanished. The land may have swallowed a boundary marked for livestock, ceremony or residence. Whatever it enclosed, grass and rain erased the edge while shadow and depth preserved the circle above.
Immediately W of possible ringfort (CW012-009001-), circular enclosure visible on aerial photographs (CUCAP BGH 32-3; GB91.DY. 02). No visible traces at ground level. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 11 January 2012

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
