Carrigan wrote that Dreeling's castle once stood inside the circular earthen rampart now hidden by trees and scrub in Brittasdryland. Whether James Hogan's land really held a castle or merely a boundary marker for cattle and people, the surviving ring still points to a lost building. The absence is not empty; it is shaped like the thing that disappeared.

A circular enclosure (diam. c. 60m), which is heavily overgrown with trees and scrub. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 435) 'Dreeling's castle [KK022-005001-] stood in James Hogan's land in Brittas, but only the large earthen rampart that enclosed it now marks the place where it stood'.
