What is recorded here

Bonnetstown holds two raths and a ráithín that vanished before the first surveyors arrived. They escaped the 1839 map and the 1946 revision, leaving behind names but no shapes. Perhaps they were never walls at all, but living boundaries drawn in breath, memory, or seasonal change.

According to O'Kelly (1969, 21) in Bonnettstown there are, 'two raths and a ráithín'. There are no enclosures indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map or the 1946-7 revision. These 'raths' (KK014-091----/KK019-052-----; KK014-092----/KK019-053-----) are unlocated within the townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 16 June 2020
