Enclosure in Bonnetstown

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Bonnetstown holds two raths and a ráithín that vanished before the first surveyors arrived. They may have been burial mounds, farming banks or forgotten boundaries, but the land kept their shapes while human memory let go.
According to O'Kelly (1969, 21) in Bonnettstown there are, 'two raths and a ráithín'. There are no enclosures indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map or the 1946-7 revision. These 'raths' (KK014-091----/KK019-052-----; KK014-092----/KK019-053-----) are unlocated within the townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 16 June 2020
