What is recorded here

Enclosure in Ballyshane (imokilly By.) is a cropmark for a univallate enclosure north of the ringfort, no wider than thirty metres. It may be one of the four lioses named by Power, which would place it inside the same living landscape as the fort rather than beside it as a dead mark. The field still gives up its shape only when dry, as if remembering the hand that drew the circle.
Cropmark (GSI, W254) shows univallate enclosure to N of ringfort (CO100-02802-). Diameter 30m or less. Possibly one of the four 'lioses' mentioned by Power (1940, 103). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
