Enclosure in Ballyegan (trughanacmy By.)

Enclosure

What is recorded here

No visible trace remains on the ground, yet a faint circular shadow appeared in an aerial photograph taken above Ballyegan in July 1987. The ghost line sits inside a larger church enclosure and just south-west of Nohoval Church and Graveyard. O'Hare called it possible rather than certain, leaving the true shape and purpose hidden beneath grass, soil and forgetting.
Possible enclosure described by O'Hare (2000, 87) as follows; 'During the course of an aerial flight undertaken early in July 1987, the author noted the presence of a possible circular enclosure within the interior of the possible church (KE039-014001-) enclosure (KE039-014004-), and situated immediately to the south-west of Nohoval Church and Graveyard (KE039-014003-). There appears however, to be no surface indication of the enclosure'. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 3 June 2022
