Enclosure in Ballincarroona (smallcounty By.)

Conjoined earthworks (LI041-009----) described in 1942-3 as following; 'The more westerly of the two structures (LI041-009---) is shown on the map, but as the other is not at all obvious, it was apparently missed by the surveyors. The eastern structure (LI041-060----) is exactly similar but has a maximum height of only 1' 6" [0.46m] over the field. Its fosse is not so deep nor is it continuous, as it has been cut into by the fosse of the other structure. It is probable that the eastern monument was the first to be built and the western one was built later. This is indicated by the intersection of the fosses as well as by the fact that the western platform is so much better preserved. The overall diameter of the eastern platform is 166' [50m].
