Enclosure in Ardkearagh

This poorly preserved subcircular enclosure, not marked on the OS maps, is located in rough pasture on a NE facing slope overlooking the Finnihy river valley to E. The flanks of its earth and stone bank have no clear definition except at the downslope E side where the bank measures 1.1m wide and .8m high externally. The bank was originally constructed of stone, much of which was robbed in the 1940s for use in the building of the Waterville-Caherdaniel road (local information). The overgrown interior of the site is uneven and bumpy and measures roughly 20m in diameter. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
