Enclosure in Anglesborough

In wet pasture on the E bank of the River Aherlow that marks the townland boundary with Ballyduff. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a raised circular-shaped area defined by a scarp. It is shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped area (dims. c. 53m NW-SE; 44m NE-SW) enclosed by a bank from W-N reduced to a scarp elsewhere with external fosse from N- E. A D-Shaped area (dims. 30m E-W; 23m N-S) lies to immediate NW. Identified as a possible ringfort on Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh West-Limerick gas pipeline aerial photographs (Strip map 2, site 2/10) taken 03/11/1984. Visible as a tree covered earthwork on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. See attached Google Earth orthoimages.
