What is recorded here
On a gentle S-facing slope. Oval rush-covered area (dims 42m NE-SW; 34m NW-SE) defined by a low overgrown earthen bank (Wth 4.4m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.9m) NE-S-W which is incorporated into a field and road bank (Wth 2.3-4.6m; int. H 0.7-0.9m; ext. H 0.9-1.9m) elsewhere, and a fosse (at SW: Wth of top 6m; Wth of base 3m; ext. D 0.7m) NE-S-SW which has been extended into a pond at E. There is a modern entrance at NW, but the original entrance (Wth 3.5m) and causeway (Wth 5m) are at SE and lead directly into rath (RO023-171002-). Archaeological testing (01E0564) c. 50m to the NW failed to produce any related material (Read 2003e). Rath (RO023-212----) is c. 120m to the WNW.
