What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Knocknagawna, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a low knoll as an oval scrub-covered area measuring thirty-nine metres north-south and thirty-one metres east-west. A gapped earthen bank three to four metres wide surrounds the space, while an outer fosse runs from the southwest to the northwest. Rath lies one hundred and thirty metres to the west-southwest, and cashel lies one hundred and ninety metres to the east-northeast.

On a low knoll. Oval scrub-covered area (dims 39m N-S; 31m E-W) defined by a gapped earthen bank (Wth 3-4m; int. H 0.3-1m; ext. H 0.6-1.4m) and hedge, with an outer fosse (Wth of base 2.5-3m; D 0.2-0.5m) SW-NNW. There is no visible entrance. Rath (RO017-050----) is c. 130m to the WSW, and cashel (RO017-056----) is c. 190m to the ENE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
