What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is an enclosure, large enclosure in Cleenraugh, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the top of a south-facing hill slope and measures roughly sixty-nine by sixty-two metres. A gapped earthen bank and outer fosse define its edge, while two other raths stand about one hundred and eighty metres away to the north and west.

Towards the top of the S-facing slope of a small hill. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 69m E-W; 62m N-S) defined by a gapped earthen bank (Wth 4-4.8m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.4-1.7m) WNW-ENE which is reduced to a scarp (H 1.05-1.3m) elsewhere, and an outer fosse (Wth of top 6.7-7.6m; Wth of base 4.3-5.5m; D 0.3-0.4m) S-W-NE which is replaced by a field bank and hedge elsewhere. There is no identifiable original entrance. Rath (RO016-013----) is c. 180m to the N, and rath (RO016-039----) is c. 180m to the W. See the attached aerial image taken from the SE.
