Embanked enclosure

Situated on a gentle E-facing slope. This is a subcircular area (dims. 34m N-S; 31m E-W) defined by a flat bottomed fosse or moat (Wth of top 6-9.5m; Wth of base 3-6m; int. D 0.5-1.2m; ext. D 1.4-2.2m) that retains water with an overgrown external earthen bank (Wth 4-7m; ext. H 1- 1.5m). The interior had recently been cleared and grass-seeded in 1988 and a causeway (Wth 4m) added at SSW. The site of Boley tower house (WX040-02001-) is immediately adjacent to the SW, and the site of Lady's Well (WX040-021----) is c. 100m to the N. It is listed as a possible ringwork by Barry (1987, 52 3). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).
