Embanked enclosure

Fairy fort / ringfort

Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and as a subcircular enclosure (ext. dims. c. 35m E-W; c. 25m N-S) incorporating a field bank NW-NE on the 1925 ed. Situated on a broad plateau. The remnants of an earthen bank (at SW: Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.9m) survive E-S-W (diam. c. 30m) around a scrub-covered area, while a field bank curtails the site at N. There is no visible fosse or entrance. The possible ringfort site (WA026-025----) is c. 25m to the W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
