This green commemorative plaque records: Here lived Edmund Cotman. 1759-1844. Haberdasher and Freeman of Norwich 1785. Father of the artist John Sell Cotman 1782-1842. The river view from this house was the subject of the artists last painting in 1842.
Edmund Cotman was a haberdasher and Freeman of Norwich, notable as the father of renowned artist John Sell Cotman; his home provided the inspiration for Cotman's final painting in 1842.
