What is recorded here

Edmund Charles Beard, born in Terenure, County Dublin, in 1894, became a major general and aide-de-camp to George VI after commanding troops through two world wars. He wore many regimental names, including the Royal Irish Regiment and the Duke of Wellington's Regiment, and fought from Gallipoli to India. A young man from Dublin became a senior British officer, perhaps showing how far service could carry someone when competence and loyalty met history's demands.
