Edmond Kelly was born in Newtown, New Inn, County Tipperary, Ireland, on 8 June 1874. He became a priest, served as a military chaplain during the First World War, and received the Military Cross for gallantry at Passchendaele. After the war he returned to Tipperary parish work and died in Dublin in 1955.
