Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Edinburgh, West Shore Road, Granton Castle as Castle (medieval), Quarry (post Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Granton Castle was built in the late 15th century by the Drummonds of Hawthornden, a prominent Scottish noble family. It is remembered as a fine example of a late medieval tower house and for its later use as a customs house in the 18th century.
