Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Edinburgh, 'dingwall Castle' as Castle (medieval), Jail (16th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Dingwall Castle, near Edinburgh, was originally built in the 13th century, likely by the de Moravia family, and later held by the Keiths. It is remembered as an important medieval stronghold and was later used as a jail in the 16th century.
