Edinburgh Castle, Dogs' Cemetery is a 19th-century animal burial ground tucked beneath the castle rocks. Dogs belonged to officers, guards and castle keepers, so when they died they were not cast away like street animals. They were buried in castle soil, treated as members of the household rather than disposable creatures.
